Buying a car with salvage title?

Pearlie Medora: Salvage title means the car was in a accident, and the insurance wrote it off as being totaled. If the car was fixed properly, then it will be fine, but its much less desirable when selling (just knowing he car was wrecked).

Arnulfo Seegars: I thought it sounded like a load of crap, I think I would just rather buy a car with a clean title.

Colby Millberg: Different states have different rules concerning salvage titles. To fully understand what is going on you would need to do some research on the car and the laws of the state that issued the salvage title. But the facts as I see it is that the car sales person you are talking too is a flufkin and you need to look elsewhere to buy a car.

Romeo Tinnea: It means it was totaled and someone rebuilt it. Chances are it will drive fine but sometimes it has issues like a bent chassis or other major problems. I would stay away from it unless you know about cars and what to look for. You can only ge! t liability insurance, it is hard if not impossible to get full coverage on a salvaged car.

Toby Caswell: i believe you can't register a car that has a salvaged title, that is why they are so cheap...i think people buy them for their parts, thats it.

Inge Mclaurine: Only if I knew the reason it had a salvage title, and could live with it. Some cars that have been declared total losses by insurance companies can actually have very little damage, or none at all. For example, a dealer's entire inventory of vehicles has been in a hurricane. Most but not all of the vehicles have suffered damages. The insurance company doesn't want to spend the effort to inspect each individual car and declares the whole lot as total losses. All of these cars end up with salvage titles -- assuming they are in one of the states that uses salvage titles. In other states, these cars could be sold with no disclosure of damage....Show more

Clifford Riggleman: You're basically buying ! a rebuilt automobile..meaning it has no warranty. Think about ! a person that's needed a kidney or heart transplant. You never know when it's going to fail again. Same with a salvaged titled car. Don't buy into it. Dealerships will always lie to you to get you to buy their cars or else they wouldn't have a job. Get a non salvaged car even if you have to pay more. In the long run you will save more.

Damaris Weiler: I owned a '94 Saturn, nothing wrong with the car and the title was fine. Well my neighbor backed into the car, surprise, surprise because of the cost of repairs that it needed they deemed the car totaled. We bought the car back from the insurance company and it now had a salvaged title on it. We were still able to keep it registered and insured but we also knew what happened to the car. Unless you can specifically find out why it has a salvaged title I wouldn't go near it. The car ended up blowing the engine a few years later, so it was no biggie for us. Just find a car without one, there are lots of them out there! and you can always ask for a carfax, they are free :)...Show more

May Stands: A salvage titled car can be an extremely great bargain. I've owned 4 salvage titled vehicles and other "clean titled" vehicles. I've had better luck with the salvaged titled cars.I don't care what kind of title a "used" car has. If you're buying "as is" you could be buying a pig in a poke, no matter what. Even brand new cars aren't always reliable, else-wise there wouldn't be a "Lemon Law" on the books. So you take a chance no matter what.I am still in possession of 2 salvage cars. One has a "cleaned' title and Car Fax tells that its accident free, (but it has been wrecked, you can easily tell) so you can't completely trust anything. The car was sold to me by a reputable dealership as a clean titled car, but I knew what I was doing so I got them to almost give it to me.The other car has a salvage title. I bought it in 2001 with 28K on it and it has 157K on it now. It still has the original ! battery in it!I've never had trouble getting "full coverage" and I didn! 't have trouble getting a loan on it either....Show more
