can a car last to see 500,000 miles or more if it was maintenance right?

Damaris Weiler: It is definitely possible. On the news one night an owner of a Saab built in the 80's got his vehicle past the 1,000,000 mark, he is a traveling sales man. Original engine and transmission. The vehicle now is in a museum and was in the 2007 milwaukee auto show. But like i said above its a Saab, which is foreign and foreign autos tend to last longer for the most part.

Ty Kirton: Its highly unlikely but i have seen it happen. Be prepared to have nearly everything replaced. I have an 89 Pontiac Sunbird with 290,000 miles on it. However this car has been in my family since it was new. It has never missed an oil change and always gets repaired when nessasary. Also depends on its driving pattern.A car that has been pushed faster all the time will expire faster than a vehicle that has been babied. The fact that your car is a Pontiac says that it will last if maintained. Check fluids regularly and take notice to your cars behavior. If something is in need! of repair, your car will let you know in advance, if you know what to look or listen for....Show more

Hilde Heskett: It is possible. It may take a couple of engines and transmissions, but it is possible. A few years back, there was a wrecker in Nebraska that had over 475,000 miles on it, with the original engine. The wrecking industry is as hard on a vehicle, if not harder, than an individual will be, due to more than one driver operating the unit.

Shaquita Wernicki: seems like it with good maintenance i know of a suburban with 600,000 give or take a few

Mitchel Demry: You maybe can. It would not be worth it. Though a car can make it this far, insurance companies would most likely call it totaled by a small repair because the repair would cost more than the car. Also, not saying your a bad driver or anything, but the average person would wreck their car before 500k. I would not think a Grand Prix would last this long, I would think a car that could make ! it this far would probably be a Corolla or a Civic, pretty muc! h an Asian fuel sipper.

Adan Alipio: Engine, physique the two issues to look after. In NE automobiles rust. All you're able to do is undercoat and wash many times in the process the iciness months after storms. common engine maintenance is a gimme yet long term? Brakes and seize will must be replaced which includes tubing.Your bolt ons. Starter, muffler, generator are ordinary.Suspension, tie rods, ball joints shocks.have been completed in the previous aligments.then you definately get into water and oil systems. the pinnacle and intake gaskets basically lasts see you later. The cylinders positioned on and the jewelry strengthen to the factor you loose compression. At that factor a rebuild is mandatory. Mine substitute right into a diesel and that i did my very own maintenance. while oil starts off dripping ,time to look after seals, replace water pump, substitute timimg chain, water pump, new head. in case you're truly serious in basic terms substitute the engine. The! cooling equipment is similiar. After ten years substitute substitute the radiator and water pump. With an aggressive plan you're able to be breakdown loose. for brand spanking new automobiles it is a dream ,polution administration gets the vehicle in ten years.Plan forward, each twelve months I spent approximately 600 on section substitute...Show more

Chet Nozick: im a college student dont have the money right now to purchase other car i will like for this car to last other 2 or 3years

Joey Mekeel: Compete car never.Diesel engine maybe. Gas engine never.Transmission on either NO .Pontiac damned am gt about 180,000 to 200,000You will be sick of the car before that

Jodie Capella: I don't know if a Grand Prix can last that long, but Saturn managed to get one of their cars up to over 950,000 miles. Those Pontiac's are fun cars, for sure. For tips and advice check out the forum linked below.

Bennie Lantgen: HI, You did not say which type of fuel you are! using. It Makes a big difference. Gasoline engines are not designed fo! r long life. Diesel, CNG, and LPG(Propane) are designed for long life.A CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) engine can easily last 300-400 thousand miles and that is just what the manufactures are recommending between overhauls. I now for a fact that most are run up to and over 500K miles between overhauls. CNG is clean burning thus leaving no carbon buildup in the engine. I just tore down one of my CNG engines. A Cummins B5.9G, just to check how it is doing. It has 172,000 miles with 9,200 hours on it and it looks like new inside. It should easily last another 300,000 miles. The GVW on that vehicle is 19,000 pounds. Propane engines have the same wear characteristics as a CNG engine. Propane is clean burning thus no carbon in the oil, causing wear on the engine.Diesel engines are also very good. Truck engines such as Caterpillar and Cummins are not considered broken in until they reach a quarter million and not rebuilt until after a million miles. I recently looked at a farmer! owned 1991 Dodge 1 ton pickup with the Cummins engine. It had 475,000 miles on it and still drove and sounded good. It brought $4,500 at auction. Even though the truck had half a million miles on it, the truck still had good resale value. My 1992 Dodge with the Cummins engine has 251,000, and it can still pull a fully loaded trailer with the GCVW close to 25,000 pounds at 65mph all day long....Show more

Esteban Faggett: Don't know about a Grand Prix but I drove a Dodge/Mercedes Sprinter van the other week with 512,000 miles on it, it ran like a Swiss watch! Why would you want to own a car for that long?It would take a long time to rack up that many miles not to mention a lot of maintenance/cash. The cash outlay to own a vehicle that long you could probably replace it before 500,000 miles.
