Bob Nakamoto: TiVO = Better user interface. Higher monthly fee. You buy the box, if it goes bad you have to get it repaired/replaced at your cost after the initial warranty.DVR = Interface is not as intuitive, doesn't learn what you like or make suggestions. Lower monthly fee. If the box goes bad the cable company replaces it.
Melvina Bieri: If your aim is getting a DVR for the lowest price, then get the Comcast DVR. If your aim is the getting the best recording and viewing experience, then get the TiVo. I'm a TiVo owner, but I recently picked up a Comcast DVR for my Mom. I couldn't believe what a crappy user interface it had. Maria Bengston: You could sell it, since the lifetime subscription follows the machine. I'm sure you'll find someone who'd want it. However, I have both a Series 2 (no card, but I use the Comcast box) and the original model (I got one of the first ones manufactured, and it's still going strong). And with the DTA from Comcast, my old, old Tivo gets all the new digital channels. However, there are fewer connection-type problems with the Comcast DVR than with Tivo. It's up to you.
